About the Event
We love Bayou Bridges because it is incredibly rich in cultural diversity, with lessons on less often taught civilizations such as the West African Kingdoms, Ancient Mesopotamia, and Ancient China! Unfortunately, the student readers are very challenging to read, even for native English speakers. With our booming population of Newcomer English Learners, our students are in need of translations of these texts. The Bayou Bridges curriculum is free to all (with a Creative Commons license) and we want to offer the translations FOR FREE as well!
As many of you know, it would be prohibitively expensive for the Bayou Bridges creators to pay for certified translations. But our students are in desparate need of these resources. So we have partnered with the LDOE, Bayou Bridges, and LaTESOL to pioneer a volunteer effort to create and make these translations available to all teachers for free.
If you are proficient/fluent in Spanish (or another high needs language like Vietnamese or French), and would like to contribute to this project, please join us for an info session on Thursday, September 5th at 7:00 pm CDT. The more minds we have working together, the faster we can push these resources out to our students.
