Our Mission
The Multilingual Learner population across Louisiana, in both urban and rural areas, has significantly increased in recent years. Many parishes are experiencing a severe teacher shortage, often resorting to hiring uncertified individuals, some of whom lack a background in education or even a bachelor's degree. While schools are striving to train these teachers, many remain ill-equipped to effectively support English Learners in the general classroom.

To address these gaps, LABE is being established to unite the state's top educators of Multilingual Learners, fostering a rich environment of shared learning and support. The Louisiana Association for Bilingual Education (LABE) is committed to enhancing and advancing the educational experiences of Multilingual Learners (MLs) across Louisiana’s public school districts, charter schools, private institutions, and higher education establishments. Our mission is to provide high-quality professional development in bilingual and ESL education to certified bilingual educators and all other educators and stakeholders involved in the education of MLs in the state of Louisiana.

LABE believes in a holistic approach that addresses the needs of ML children both in school and at home. To support this vision, we are dedicated to offering free resources to parents and families. These resources are designed to help them support their children's academic success, navigate the process of paying for college, and adapt to their new lives in the United States. By fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, LABE aims to empower educators, parents, and students, ensuring that MLs have the tools and opportunities they need to thrive academically and personally.
